The best wireless trigger for tube light-painting

No triggers is made for tube light-painting. I tried over 20 brands/models, and they always have some issues

• locks the bulb after 2 seconds (try that to see how much it messes with your brain lol (Aputure)

• not precise enough: doesn't send the signal as soon as you release the button (Vello and many others)

• bad signal (pocketwizard PlusX! erghh)

• no half-press (some pocketwizard)

• non-detachable cable (Neewer)

• no bulb support (older Phottix...)

There are some that lock the exposure when you press, and then you have to press again to release. Problem with this is that when you're shooting in a noisy environment (beach, city....), it sometimes become hard to figure out in which states you are. If you're shooting with multiple cameras, it becomes even worse as you always end up having both cameras in different status.

The Yongnuo RF-603 II is really the ones that works for me:

• zero delay

• works perfectly in bulb mode

• AAA battery operated (easy to find / replace) *** use 1.5v non-rechargeable ones to avoid glitches

• each device can be the receiver or the transmitter, meaning that you don't need to carry all sort of backup units

• 2.5mm connector

• has half-press functionality (this is absolutely required for mirrorless cameras)

Now what about the Impact PowerSync 16-80?

I worked (struggled) for about a year with this one. I still have 8 units. It's very very bad, I hate it a lot, but somehow, it's still the second best option. It is much more reliable for the signal. But...

• when it's humid outdoors, it starts to misbehave (the receiver can switch mode without even touching it - that happened a lot to me, with many different units)

• the channel buttons are always in the way. You are 100% sure to press by mistake and then you're not paired to your receiver anymore

• the shutter button is very poorly made. Over time, it starts to glitch and become super unreliable.
