10 years of tube light-painting already…

We rarely celebrate anniversaries, not even our own birthdays. But this one feels a bit different.

Because it involves the input of so many of you who’ve been part of this journey, we feel the desire to acknowledge this milestone.

Ten years ago, we stumbled upon a 4-foot plastic tube guard in the window of a retail plastic store. Seeing the potential of this unlikely DIY light-painting tool, we bought one and went to the beach that same night with a friend to try it out. Little did we know that this simple plastic tube would change our lives, and eventually touch the lives of many others. From that night on, it’s fair to say we became completely obsessed with outdoor light painting.

Reflecting on a decade of creation, we’re reminded of what the journey is really made of. Behind every beautiful or polished image lies a trail of ugly pictures, questionable choices, blurry shots, mosquito bites, frozen toes, broken gear, missed blue hours, frustrations, and laughter.

So we thought it was appropriate to make a tribute.

To the mistakes and the missteps.

Light-painting is not a glamorous journey, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Cheers to the things that go wrong, to the lessons they bring, and to the way those moments make everything feel more real, more human, and somehow more magical.

Here’s our short tribute.

Paint with love, Paint with light
